5v5 play · Twins Left
Smash
A short hitch under a deep corner. The corner defender can sit on the hitch or run with the corner, never both.
Routes
- CFlat
Out to the sideline right away, 1–2 yards past the line. The QB's quick outlet.
- XHitch
Run hard 6 yards, stop, turn back to the QB. Quick and safe.
- YCorner
Seven yards up, then break deep toward the corner pylon.
- ZPost
Seven yards up, then break deep toward the middle of the end zone.
- QRead
Read Y → X → C. Throw as she breaks open.
The QB's read, step by step
- Y on the corner. Look here first, right from the snap.
- X on the hitch. Covered? Move your eyes here next.
- C on the flat. The last look. Get the ball out before the 7 seconds run out.
Coaching points
- Line up in Twins Left: two receivers to one side, one alone on the other.
- Every route at the same depth on every snap, so the QB can throw on time.
- No picks: receivers cross near each other, never into a defender on purpose.
- Run it to both sides: mirror it and it's two plays.
When to call it
Against a zone: the defenders guard areas, and this play puts two receivers in one area. Mirror it to attack the other side.
