Slant Flat
The slant and the flat put one defender in a bind: she can't cover both. Read her: if she sinks, throw the flat; if she jumps the flat, throw the slant.
Routes
- CDrag
Shallow across the field. Run away from man coverage, sit in a zone hole.
- XSlant
Two steps up, then a sharp angle inside. Win in the first second.
- YFlat
Out to the sideline right away, 1–2 yards past the line. The QB's quick outlet.
- ZGo
Full speed straight up the field. Sell it from the first step.
- QRead
Read X → Y → C. Throw as she breaks open.
The QB's read, step by step
- X on the slant. Look here first, right from the snap.
- Y on the flat. Covered? Move your eyes here next.
- C on the drag. The last look. Get the ball out before the 7 seconds run out.
Coaching points
- Line up in Spread: two wide receivers near the sidelines, the slot inside, the center over the ball.
- Every route at the same depth on every snap, so the QB can throw on time.
- No picks: receivers cross near each other, never into a defender on purpose.
- Run it to both sides: mirror it and it's two plays.
When to call it
Against man coverage: the routes are built to win one-on-one. Mirror it to attack the other side.
