5v5 play · Trips Right
Flood
Three receivers at three depths on one side: deep, middle, short. A zone has two defenders there; someone is open.
Routes
- CDrag
Shallow across the field. Run away from man coverage, sit in a zone hole.
- XGo
Full speed straight up the field. Sell it from the first step.
- YFlat
Out to the sideline right away, 1–2 yards past the line. The QB's quick outlet.
- ZDeep Out
The out at 10 yards. Needs a strong throw; time it.
- QRead
Read Z → Y → X. Throw as she breaks open.
The QB's read, step by step
- Z on the deep out. Look here first, right from the snap.
- Y on the flat. Covered? Move your eyes here next.
- X on the go. The last look. Get the ball out before the 7 seconds run out.
Coaching points
- Line up in Trips Right: three receivers to one side, which stretches the defense.
- Every route at the same depth on every snap, so the QB can throw on time.
- No picks: receivers cross near each other, never into a defender on purpose.
- Run it to both sides: mirror it and it's two plays.
When to call it
Against a zone: the defenders guard areas, and this play puts two receivers in one area. Mirror it to attack the other side.
