5v5 play · Spread
Double Move
Throw the hitch twice early in the game. The third time, the out-and-up runs right past the defender who jumps it.
Routes
- CDrag
Shallow across the field. Run away from man coverage, sit in a zone hole.
- XOut & Up
Fake the out, then explode up the sideline when the defender bites.
- YSlant
Two steps up, then a sharp angle inside. Win in the first second.
- ZHitch
Run hard 6 yards, stop, turn back to the QB. Quick and safe.
- QRead
Read X → Y → Z. Throw as she breaks open.
The QB's read, step by step
- X on the out & up. Look here first, right from the snap.
- Y on the slant. Covered? Move your eyes here next.
- Z on the hitch. The last look. Get the ball out before the 7 seconds run out.
Coaching points
- Line up in Spread: two wide receivers near the sidelines, the slot inside, the center over the ball.
- Every route at the same depth on every snap, so the QB can throw on time.
- No picks: receivers cross near each other, never into a defender on purpose.
- Run it to both sides: mirror it and it's two plays.
When to call it
Against man coverage: the routes are built to win one-on-one. Mirror it to attack the other side.
